Is Color Lab for you?

You shouldn’t have to become a colorist just because you shot Log. Color Lab gives you great color without turning every edit into a grading lesson.

Made for you if…

  • You shoot iPhone Apple Log or standard iPhone video, DJI drones in D-Log or D-Log M, or Osmo Pocket and other Osmo cameras in D-Log, D-Log 2 or D-Log M
  • You want a cinematic, finished look in seconds, without learning complex color grading first
  • You’re new to DaVinci Resolve — or you simply want a faster workflow
  • You want to adjust exposure, contrast, color, film grain, halation and more without building complicated node trees
  • You want to save your favorite looks and reuse them across future videos

Probably not for you if…

  • You already have an advanced grading workflow and prefer building every look manually
  • You want complete control through custom nodes, curves, qualifiers and scopes
  • You don’t edit in DaVinci Resolve — Color Lab runs inside Resolve, but our standalone LUT packs work with other supported editors

Less time grading. More time creating.

Never used DaVinci Resolve?

No problem. DaVinci Resolve is free from Blackmagic Design, and Color Lab only needs a small part of it. Three steps and you’re grading.

1

Get DaVinci Resolve

Download DaVinci Resolve 20 or later, free from Blackmagic Design. Studio works too.

2

Install Color Lab

Run the installer for Mac or Windows, then restart Resolve. The install guide covers every step.

3

Start grading

On the Color page, drag Ypresets Color Lab from Effects onto a node. Pick your pack, choose a look and fine-tune.

Why we built it

We wanted color grading to feel easy

DaVinci Resolve can do almost anything.
That’s also what can make it feel complicated.

Most of the time, we just wanted to take flat iPhone Apple Log or DJI footage, choose a look, make a few quick adjustments and get back to creating.

No building complicated node trees.
No digging through menus.
No hunting through folders for LUT files.

So we built Color Lab: the workflow we wanted for ourselves.

Your LUTs, essential adjustments and finishing effects — all in one place, inside DaVinci Resolve.

2

Step through the looks with Previous and Next, then use the Intensity slider to make the look stronger or more subtle.

3

A Smarter Color Pipeline

Color Lab doesn't simply stack adjustments randomly.

Auto Balance, Exposure, Temperature and Tint are processed before the LUT, allowing you to correct the source footage before the creative color transformation.

The LUT is then applied.

Highlights, Shadows, Contrast and Saturation are processed afterwards, giving you precise control over the finished look.

Film effects are applied later in the pipeline for a natural final result.

That means your adjustments behave more like a proper grading workflow rather than simple filters placed on top of each other.

You don't need to understand any of this to use Color Lab. It all happens in the background.

Film-Inspired Effects Built In

Ypresets Color Lab Film Grain effect on a Paris shot with Grain Amount 66.7 and Grain Size 1.703

Film Grain

Add organic texture directly inside the plugin.

Color Lab generates grain live rather than using a static video overlay. The grain changes naturally from frame to frame and automatically adapts to your footage resolution.

Control

  • Grain Amount
  • Grain Size

From subtle texture to a noticeably analog finish.

Ypresets Color Lab Bloom effect before and after on a night shot of the Louvre with Bloom Amount 56.6, Bloom Radius 0.860 and Bloom Threshold 79.1

Bloom

Soften and spread bright highlights for a more atmospheric, cinematic image.

Control

  • Bloom Amount
  • Bloom Radius
  • Bloom Threshold

The Threshold control lets you decide which parts of the image are bright enough to generate bloom, giving you much more control than a simple glow effect.

Ypresets Color Lab Halation effect on a Paris street at night with neon signs and the Eiffel Tower, with Halation Amount 69.0 and Halation Radius 0.337

Halation

Create the warm red-orange glow associated with bright highlights on film.

Halation is generated from the bright areas of your actual image rather than using a generic overlay.

Control

  • Halation Amount
  • Halation Radius

Use it subtly for added character or push it further for a stylized film look.

Ypresets Color Lab Vignette effect on a shot of visitors under a painted dome, with Vignette Amount -65.9, Vignette Size 0.186 and Vignette Feather 0.434

Vignette

Guide attention towards your subject or subtly shape the edges of the frame.

  • Vignette Amount
  • Vignette Size
  • Vignette Feather

Keep it almost invisible or create a much stronger stylized effect.

Create Cinematic Borders

Ypresets Color Lab Borders panel adding cinematic letterbox bars to a Paris wedding shot, Top/Bottom 30.0

Add borders directly inside Color Lab without creating additional nodes, generators or adjustment layers.

Independently control
  • Top / Bottom
  • Left / Right
  • Border Color

Create cinematic letterboxing, custom aspect-ratio styling or colored borders directly inside your grade.

See the Difference Instantly

Ypresets Color Lab Split Screen comparison on a Paris rooftop at sunset, flat log footage on the left and the graded result on the right, Split Position 45.0

Before / After

Toggle your complete Color Lab grade on and off instantly to see how far you've taken the original footage.

Split Screen

Compare the original and graded image side by side without leaving the plugin.

These tools make it much easier to judge whether your grade is actually improving the shot rather than simply becoming more intense.

Color Lab My Looks panel: Look Name 'Paris Summer', Saved Looks, Save Look, Apply, Rename and Delete

Name your look, save it and recall it on any clip, in any project on that computer.

You can also rename or delete saved looks directly inside the plugin. Auto Balance isn’t saved with a look, because it’s set for each shot.

Works the Way Resolve Works

Color Lab behaves like a normal DaVinci Resolve effect, so you're not locked into a special workflow.

Use it on a single clip or take advantage of Resolve's existing tools to grade multiple clips.

You can
  • Copy your Color Lab grade to selected clips
  • Apply it through Group nodes
  • Use it on a Timeline node
  • Apply it to an Adjustment Clip
  • Save frequently used grades with My Looks

You remain completely inside the normal DaVinci Resolve workflow.

Ypresets Color Lab for DaVinci Resolve

FAQ

What is Ypresets Color Lab?

Ypresets Color Lab is a plugin for DaVinci Resolve that helps you give your footage a cinematic look. You choose the pack for your camera, pick a look, adjust it with simple sliders, add film effects like grain and halation, and save your favorite grades to My Looks. It works inside DaVinci Resolve and doesn't replace Resolve's advanced grading tools.

Who is Color Lab for?

Creators who shoot iPhone Apple Log or DJI Log footage and want a finished, cinematic look fast, without leaving DaVinci Resolve. It suits first-time Resolve users and experienced editors who want a quicker workflow.

Do I need color grading experience?

No. Choose the pack for your camera, pick a look and adjust a few clearly labeled sliders. The free trial lets you try the full plugin before you buy.

What's the best DaVinci Resolve color grading plugin for beginners?

It depends on what you shoot and the look you want. If you shoot iPhone Apple Log or DJI footage and want a finished look fast, Color Lab is built for that: pick the pack for your camera, pick a look and adjust a few sliders, in DaVinci Resolve Free or Studio. If you want to recreate specific film stocks, a film emulation plugin such as Dehancer or FilmConvert is the better fit. Our beginner's guide to Resolve color grading plugins compares them.

What's the easiest way to color grade Apple Log in DaVinci Resolve?

On the Color page, drag Ypresets Color Lab onto a node, choose the iPhone Apple Log pack (it's also the pack for Apple Log 2) and pick a look. Then nudge exposure or white balance if the shot needs it. Don't add a Color Space Transform or conversion LUT first, because the looks already include the conversion.

Does Color Lab work with Osmo Pocket 3 D-Log M footage?

Yes. Choose the Osmo D-Log M pack for Osmo Pocket 3 and other D-Log M Osmo cameras, such as Osmo Action, Osmo Nano and Osmo 360. Osmo Pocket 4 D-Log footage uses the Osmo D-Log pack, and Osmo Pocket 4P D-Log 2 footage uses the Osmo D-Log 2 pack. DJI drone footage uses the Drone D-Log or Drone D-Log M pack.

What does Auto Balance do?

One click analyzes the current frame and corrects exposure (up to about 1.5 stops), white balance (temperature and tint) and a lifted black point before the look is applied, without moving your own sliders. Clipped highlights are ignored, and strongly colored scenes like sunsets aren’t neutralized. If the shot is already fine, you’ll see “Already balanced, no change needed.” Use Auto Balance Amount to dial it back, or Reset Auto Balance to undo it. Auto Balance is set per shot, so it isn’t saved in My Looks. It reads the frame on Resolve’s Color page, not the Edit page, and is confirmed in DaVinci Resolve Studio so far.

I've never used DaVinci Resolve. Can I still use Color Lab?

Yes. DaVinci Resolve is free from Blackmagic Design, and Color Lab works with version 20 or later. Open your clip on the Color page, drag Ypresets Color Lab from Effects onto a node and pick a look. The install guide and step-by-step article walk you through it.

Which footage is Color Lab for?

Color Lab covers iPhone Apple Log and standard iPhone video, DJI drones in D-Log or D-Log M, the Osmo Pocket series in D-Log M, D-Log or D-Log 2 (each has its own pack), and other Osmo cameras. Choose the matching pack in the plugin. Shooting Apple Log 2? Use the iPhone Apple Log pack. Shot D-Log 2 on a Pocket 4P? Use Osmo D-Log 2. Not sure which pack to use? Email hi@ypresets.com.

Do I need a Color Space Transform or Rec.709 LUT before Color Lab?

No. The looks are made to go straight onto your log clip. Adding a separate conversion LUT or Color Space Transform first will convert the image twice and make the grade look wrong. Just choose the pack that matches the profile you shot.

Is Color Lab for professional colorists?

Not really. Color Lab is for creators who want a finished look fast, not for colorists who build every grade by hand in their own node tree. It works like a normal Resolve effect, so experienced editors can still use it as a quick starting point and keep grading on top.

Is Color Lab just a LUT pack?

No. Color Lab is a dedicated DaVinci Resolve plugin. In addition to the Ypresets LUT library, it includes LUT intensity control, Auto Balance, color adjustments (including Highlight Roll-Off, Highlight Warmth, Protect Skin and Skin Warmth), Film Grain, Halation, Bloom, Vignette, cinematic Borders, Before / After comparison, Split Screen and custom saved looks.

Is Color Lab an alternative to Dehancer or FilmConvert?

They solve different problems. Dehancer and FilmConvert are film emulation plugins built around film stock profiles. Color Lab is built around the Ypresets looks for iPhone and DJI footage, with color controls, Film Grain, Halation, Bloom, Vignette, Borders, Before / After and My Looks on one node. If you want to recreate specific film stocks, a film emulation plugin is the better fit. If you want a finished look on Apple Log or DJI footage fast, Color Lab is. Read our Dehancer vs FilmConvert vs Color Lab comparison.

What's a good Dehancer alternative for iPhone and Osmo footage?

If you want film-stock emulation like Dehancer, a free option is spektrafilm OFX, and Resolve Studio also includes Film Look Creator. If you shoot iPhone Apple Log or DJI Osmo / drone Log and want a finished look without learning to grade, Ypresets Color Lab is the simpler alternative: pick the pack for your camera, pick a look and adjust a few sliders, in DaVinci Resolve Free or Studio. You shouldn't have to become a colorist just because you shot Log. See our Dehancer vs FilmConvert vs Color Lab comparison. Auto Balance is confirmed in Resolve Studio so far.

What's a good FilmConvert alternative for DaVinci Resolve?

FilmConvert Nitrate is a film emulation plugin built around camera packs. A free film-stock route is spektrafilm OFX; Resolve Studio's Film Look Creator is another no-extra-cost option. If you shoot iPhone or DJI footage and want a finished Ypresets look fast rather than specific film stocks, Ypresets Color Lab is the better FilmConvert alternative for that job: camera packs for Apple Log, Osmo D-Log M / D-Log / D-Log 2 and drone Log, with color controls and film effects on one node. Fair side-by-side: Dehancer vs FilmConvert vs Color Lab.

Is there an Apple Log plugin for DaVinci Resolve?

Yes. Ypresets Color Lab is an OpenFX plugin for DaVinci Resolve with an iPhone Apple Log pack (also used for Apple Log 2). Drop it on a Color page node, pick a look and adjust a few sliders — no Color Space Transform first. It works in Resolve 20 or later, Free and Studio, on Mac and Windows, with a free watermarked trial. The no-cost route without a plugin is Resolve's Color Space Transform or a conversion LUT. Step-by-step: How to grade Apple Log and DJI footage in DaVinci Resolve.

Are all Ypresets LUTs included?

The complete Ypresets video LUT library is accessible directly inside Color Lab. Color Lab is a separate product from the standalone downloadable Ypresets LUT packs.

Do I receive the .cube LUT files with Color Lab?

No. The included Ypresets looks are designed to be used directly inside Color Lab. Purchasing Color Lab does not include the standalone downloadable .cube LUT packs.

Which versions of DaVinci Resolve and which computers does it work with?

Color Lab works with DaVinci Resolve 20 or later, both Free and Studio. On Mac, it supports Apple silicon (M1 or later) and Intel Macs, and GPU acceleration is supported on Mac. On Windows, it supports Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit.

Does Color Lab work with DaVinci Resolve Free?

Yes. Color Lab works with both DaVinci Resolve Free and DaVinci Resolve Studio, version 20 or later. Auto Balance, added in 0.9.12, is confirmed in Studio so far.

How do I install Color Lab?

Download and run the installer for your operating system, then restart DaVinci Resolve. Color Lab will then appear inside Resolve. You can begin your trial or enter your license key to activate the full version.

Step-by-step instructions for Mac and Windows are in the Color Lab install guide.

Where do I find Color Lab in DaVinci Resolve?

Restart DaVinci Resolve after installing. On the Color page, open the Effects library and look under OpenFX for the Ypresets group, or search for “Ypresets”, then drag Ypresets Color Lab onto a node. Still missing? The install guide has troubleshooting steps for Mac and Windows.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Download the full plugin free. It adds a watermark until you activate a license key.

How do I get my license key?

Your license key arrives by email after your purchase. It starts with YCL-. Enter it in Color Lab inside DaVinci Resolve to activate the full version and remove the watermark.

How do the license and updates work?

Color Lab is a one-time purchase with no subscription. Your license can be active on up to 2 computers at the same time. Getting a new computer? Just deactivate the old one in Color Lab and activate the new one. Once activated, it works offline. Your license includes free future plugin updates.

Can I adjust the strength of a LUT?

Yes. Every LUT can be adjusted using the Intensity control, allowing you to make the look more subtle or more pronounced.

Why are some adjustments applied before the LUT?

Auto Balance, Exposure, Temperature and Tint are processed before the LUT so that you're correcting the footage before applying the creative transformation. Contrast, Highlights, Shadows and Saturation are then applied afterwards for final refinement. This gives Color Lab a more natural grading workflow.

Is the Film Grain a video overlay?

No. Film Grain is generated live inside Color Lab. It changes from frame to frame and automatically scales with your footage resolution.

What is Halation?

Halation creates a warm red-orange glow around brighter areas of the image, inspired by the behavior of traditional film. Color Lab generates this effect from the highlights in your actual footage.

What is Bloom?

Bloom creates a soft glow around brighter parts of the image. Color Lab gives you independent controls for Bloom Amount, Radius and Threshold, allowing you to decide both the strength and which highlights produce the effect.

Can I add cinematic black bars?

Yes. Color Lab includes adjustable horizontal and vertical borders. You can independently control the Top / Bottom and Left / Right border size and choose the border color.

Can I save my own grades?

Yes. My Looks saves your complete Color Lab setup: pack, LUT, intensity, every adjustment, effects and borders. Saved looks work in every project on that computer and can be renamed, recalled or deleted inside the plugin. Auto Balance isn’t saved, because it’s set for each shot.

Can I apply Color Lab to multiple clips?

Yes. Because Color Lab works like a normal Resolve effect, you can use DaVinci Resolve's normal workflow to apply it across multiple clips. You can copy grades, use Group or Timeline nodes, or apply Color Lab to an Adjustment Clip.

Does Color Lab replace the DaVinci Resolve Color page?

No. Color Lab is designed to make common creative grading tasks faster. You can create a complete grade entirely within Color Lab or use it as the starting point for a more advanced Resolve grade.

Will Color Lab fix badly exposed Log footage?

Auto Balance (up to about 1.5 stops) and the exposure controls can correct moderate exposure and white balance problems, but no plugin can recover image information that wasn't captured. For the best results, particularly when shooting Log, footage should still be exposed correctly during recording.
